Come one, come all!
A warm welcome, a statement of intent, a humble circle drawn in chalk on a dusty floor
Hello to all - old friends and new faces!
I am Phoebe Hildegard, a longtime, low-down, dirt-worshipping, no-nonsense kind of witch. I am an outlaw medium, a roguish card reader, a romantic herbalist. My passion is working with others to help them gain greater happiness and live a life of enchantment. Ours is an ancient tradition, and it’s one that comes to life in the service of the downtrodden, the maligned, and the ne’er-do-wells.
Following the pattern of the village witch, the cunning woman, the astrological physickian, I am here to help correct life’s ills, court Fortune’s blessings, and share what I know about practical magic, effective enchantment, and the delicious, bizarre world of spirits in which we live.
To that end, I always welcome inquiries by email at phoebe.hildegard@gmail.com
This newsletter is an outgrowth of my work online. I am not interested in starting cults or becoming a spiritual leader. My aim is to share magical knowledge to help others find joy and success in their engagement with the Unseen.
In these newsletters I intend to share bits of my ongoing occult research. I hope to provide some useful magical tricks and techniques. I will endeavor to inspire the lonely and to connect them (you? Us) with information that will make living in this mortal coil less awful and more enjoyable, even romantic, wondrous, 𝑐ℎ𝑎𝑟𝑚𝑒𝑑.
My own journey to magic has taken years of hardship and quite a lot of trials by fire. I have had teachers in various traditions. I have taught myself a great deal from books. And yes, dear reader, I have learned a thing or two from the spirits, who are the best teachers of all.
These days I work various magical interests into my actual practice, from Folkloric Witchcraft to Chaos Magic, from the Grimoire Tradition to Astrological Theurgy, Graeco-Egyptian Syncretic Magic, Medical Herbalism, Hermeticism, a smattering of Alchemy, English Cunning Craft, The Cult of the Saints, Spiritism, and a whole heap of good old-fashioned Necromancy.
It sounds more complicated than it is. Magicians in every age have tended to be obsessive compilers and magpie-combiners. The cross-cultural, inter-faith exchange of ideas is what makes magic beautiful and efficacious.
I read widely and study deeply. But on the ground in my daily life I favor handy charms, quick enchantments, and above all, practicality.
The Arcane Arts are an endless source of renewal, inspiration, and beguilement. To make a true study of the occult takes lifetimes. Humans and spirits are collaborating even now to create new traditions, new techniques, new lenses for shaping and refracting reality.
I am no expert, merely an experienced student with a boundless curiosity and a will to improve the lives of other seekers. Whatever path you walk, I hope it is bringing you deep mystery, helpful challenge, and delightful reward. Perhaps by sharing our experiences, we can collectively sharpen our wits and more effectively engage the numinous.
All the best in this world and the next,
Thee Lady Phoebe Hildegard
Mistress of Mystery, Dame of Death
